WHO ARE WE AND WHAT WE DO

The Imperial Scottish Garrison represents the Scottish mainland and islands of the United Kingdom for the 501st Legion. The 501st Legion (aka Vader’s Fist) is a worldwide Star Wars fan club celebrating the Star Wars universe using costumes and props, in particular those of the Stormtrooper characters, Imperial forces, and other various “bad guy” characters. The Legion is a volunteer club formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts and giving them a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion’s aims are to celebrate the Star Wars movies through the wearing of costumes, to promote the quality and improvement of costumes and props, and most importantly, to contribute to the local community through charity and volunteer work.

The 501st legion has over 33,000 costumes, 15,500 members and spanning 6  continents and continues to reach out and touch the lives of fans, it also seeks to recognize those who have contributed their time, skills and talents to the Star Wars saga in some special way. There are also many friends of the Legion who may not have specifically worked for Lucasfilm, but who have shown tremendous support of the 501st and Star Wars fandom.  The Imperial Scottish Garrison has contributed to the pool of talented people and you can find them on our Honorary Members page, the full list of 501st honorary members can be found on the 501st website.

OUR PURPOSE

The Imperial Scottish Garrison works to participate in the community for the benefit of the children, both big and small. Whether it is visiting local children’s hospitals, participating in benefits that support children, or just having fun at conventions, our desire is to bring the joy of the Star Wars universe we had growing up with, to the children of this generation.  We work with other charity organisations including our sister club - The Rebel Legion.

OUR APPEARANCES

The 501st Legion is a volunteer organization and does not accept payment for appearances, but if we are requested to attend an event that is corporate, marketing, promotional or any other type of commercial event that does not in itself benefit a charity then we ask for a donation to be made to the Imperial Scottish Garrison. The donation requested is calculated around the size of the event, the number of troopers attending and the length of the event. 100% of this money will support the various charities that the ISG supports. We make no deductions from this donation for personal expenses. If it is a non-commercial event that will benefit a charity, hospital, the community or those in need in some way then we do not ask for a donation. We will just turn up on the day and help to bring smiles to the faces of children and adults alike.

Our membership consists of volunteers, most of whom hold full-time jobs outside of Legion activities. Our ability to satisfy an event request depends on a number of factors including availability of members, location and time of the event, and the significance of the event. Events which directly or indirectly benefit the community and/or charity organisations generally receive a better chance of a 501st appearance than private functions.

The 501st Legion focuses on Star Wars villain characters, but we recommend inquiring with our sister organization, the Rebel Legion, should you desire Star Wars hero, Jedi or Rebel characters at your event.

We are renowned for our high standard 'movie accurate' costumes, professionalism and dedication to fundraising for charities. Our goal to be the very best at what we do, which enables us to be present at the highest level of Star Wars related events and work with some of the biggest names in the Star Wars industry.  Some of our Garrison's charity beneficiaries are Children Hospitals across Scotland (CHAS), Erskine Hospital, and Glasgow and Edinburgh Children’s hospital Charites.
