WELCOME

We are always looking to welcome new recruits to the Imperial Scottish Garrison, which is part of the worldwide 501st Legion. All costumes are built by our own members to 'on screen' levels of costume accuracy, guided by our experienced armourers (your guide through the whole process).

There are 3 resource areas which will help with your journey:

A good source of information can be found on our frequently asked questions (FAQ's) page.

Here are 4 main step to become a member of the Imperial Scottish Garrison and the 501st Legion.

1. Choose which costume you wish to build by visiting the 501st Legion Costuming Reference Library.  There are many advantages and disadvantages to each costume.  Some can be expensive for purchasing parts and some can be hot to wear for long periods while trooping. Whereas others can be less expensive and parts more easily available, more comfortable to wear and you can stay in character longer.

2. Now that you have decided what to wear, you have to build it, sew it, put it together and get yourself looking like you are from the Star Wars universe. Join the detachment forum your costume is attached to. The members here have a long history of knowing your costume in detail and can provide unquestionable knowledge. They can assist you with building you costume and start you in a WIP (Work In Progress) thread on the forum.  Start reading other threads regarding parts and other WIP's to see how other members built their costumes, their mistakes and their successes.

3. Join our forum.  Once your account is up and running, introduce yourself, tell us where you live in Scotland, what costume you are interested in or working on. Starting a WIP will give you a great opportunity to showcase your progress to the rest of the Garrison as well as your assigned armourer and to get constructive feedback throughout your build.

4. Take some high quality photos of you in your costume so that your costume can be approved by the garrison armourer and our Garrison Membership Liaison (GML) . Take photos from the front, back, both sides, with your hands up and if you wear a bucket (a helmet) take one without it on. Use good lighting (natural if possible), and make sure there is a plain (as possible) background behind you.  Your armourer will inform you if your costume has been approved or not. If it isn’t, they will let you know why and where it can be improved. Once it’s approved, they will provide all the information required on how to join the 501st Legion Forum.
